DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) has become the common language for skill level in pickleball. Here's what it is and how to use it to run fairer, better-matched events.
What DUPR is
DUPR is a free, global rating system that scores players from roughly 2.0 to 8.0 based on actual match results — wins, losses, and score margins — regardless of age or gender. Because it's driven by results across many events, it's more consistent than self-rating.
Why it helps organizers
A shared rating makes it easy to build competitive divisions and seed brackets fairly. It reduces sandbagging (players entering below their true level) and gives newcomers a clear, objective way to find the right division.
Using DUPR in your events
Two common approaches: require players to have a DUPR ID at registration, and/or set a rating band per division (for example, 3.0–3.5). Reporting results back to DUPR keeps everyone's rating current and makes your event part of the wider ecosystem.
